Back to the Virat Panacea

A headstrong captain of the richest board had set out to change the mindset of the team and he knew things would not turn out to be the way he wants if he continues with the same arsenal. With the inbuilt ability of fighting fire with fire and looking the opponent in the eye, he knew that fast bowling had to be the next big thing in Indian cricket for the team to succeed. For this purpose he also needed to ensure that the bowling was backed by the fielding and good fielding required agility alongside dexterity. Consequently the Yo-yo test was inducted as a pre-requisite to be fulfilled for entry into the team. What was intended to supplement the performance was downplayed as an obstacle for the ones performing in the domestic but not being able to keep upto the fitness mark.

Having been battle hardened by his encounter with the best of the bowlers in the world throughout his career he was adamant upon the fulfillment of this condition condition related to fitness. He had seen his own transformation and knew how pivotal a role can fitness play in aligning your body, mind and actions. However, his resolution was misplaced for his arrogance. His failure as captain to win an ICC tournament, which in cricket is a collective failure was used an opportunity to frown upon him and his resignation as the T-20 captain was used as the slightest of pretext needed to replace him in the other two formats as well. It's been a year since he isn't the captain anymore and the other captain has failed in two big tournaments. The BCCI called a meeting and in the conclusion suggested the inclusion of dexa test compulsory for all, in essence a resumption of the Yo-yo test post COVID, the players are to prefer international matches over IPL and proper workload management needs to be followed. All these are points that had been suggested by Virat Kohli almost 4 years ago and after all the battering he had to take and the musical chairs the selection committee played with the players it all boils down to the panacea a man mistaken as arrogant had suggested. The question then rises wasn't also the decision to snatch away the captaincy from him wrong? The answer even though might be known to all what is more important is not to give him back the captaincy to do a poetic justice but to be happy about the fact that the correct pathway has been asked to be followed and it has been understood that winning trophies is a process which when followed continuously would only then give the end result.
